A&E Insider Series | Flower Drum Song (1961) 7:00pm MOVIE Flower Drum Song (1961) A young woman arrives in San Francisco's Chinatown from Hong Kong with the intention of marrying a rakish nightclub owner, unaware he is involved with one of his singers ​ As part of our Insider Series for the Arts and Entertainment Committee, Annie Wang, Associate Artistic Director and Dramaturg at East West Players, will join us for a screening of the 1961 film Flower Drum Song, followed by a post-screening discussion comparing it to today’s reimagined musical. While many themes remain, David Henry Hwang has deepened the conversation around stereotype, authenticity, and who gets to tell Asian American stories, offering a compelling perspective you won’t want to miss. ​ ​ Reservations are required for all Member events that occur at City Club LA.
